2024 opening night wrap-up!

Thank you to everyone who joined us last Sunday, 11 December to celebrate the beginning of the Illawarra Film Society’s 2024 season– our 12th year. There was a really exciting buzz from the Gala foyer, and we had many new faces join us!

Before the screening, Wollongong Citizen of the Year Aunty Barbara Nicholson warmly welcomed everyone, and gave a powerful speech on last year’s national conversation, hoping for more empathy and unity in 2024. Award-winning screenwriter and director David Roach then took the stage, for a hilarious and touching story about the power of filmmaking and his history in the medium, and the importance of recognising creatives.

The film of the night was Uproar, a New Zealand drama-comedy backdropped by the 1981 Springbok rugby tour. Not a dry eye was present in the theatre, with two rounds of applause as the credits rolled. What a night!
